iOS 13.5 Beta is improved for epidemic situation: mask detection, close contact tracking

Source: Sina Digital

On April 30th, Apple began to push Beta 1 updates for iOS 13.5 / iPadOS 13.5 Developer Preview. The two major feature updates for the iOS beta version are around the outbreak of the new crown epidemic overseas. The first is to optimize Face ID, users can wear masks to unlock more easily, and the second upgrade also includes a new coronavirus pneumonia contact tracking technology API.

Wearing a mask to unlock the iPhone is more convenient

Apple finally optimized Face ID this time. When the iPhone detects that the user is wearing a mask, it will directly pop up the password input interface. Before that, it is troublesome to wear the mask to use the Face ID to unlock. Normally, swipe up Only then will the password input interface appear.

During the epidemic, the iPhone ’s Face ID function made many users feel inconvenient, saying that it is not possible to wear a mask. Some tutorials on "wearing face masks and using face IDs" have appeared on the Internet, but they are not 100% successful. Apple also said that this operation is not safe.

The optimized Face ID means that it is easier to unlock the phone when performing mobile payment and other operations, without having to swipe up many times before the password input interface appears.

This feature is currently only available in Apple iOS 13.5 Developer Preview Beta 3, because it is still a beta version, the official version will take a few weeks to release.

This update simplifies the process of unlocking when wearing a mask. Face ID notices that when the person who is unlocking is wearing a mask, swipe up from the bottom of the lock screen to display the password input interface, instead of identifying several unsuccessful before before Password interface. And this optimized experience also applies to the App Store, Apple Books, Apple Pay, iTunes and other applications that support the use of face ID login.

It is also known that this update will not reduce the security of Face ID. It is still the most secure facial recognition technology in smartphones. According to Apple, the probability that a random stranger can unlock the face ID on someone else ’s iPhone or iPad Pro is only one in a million.

Increase the switch

Contains new crown close contact tracking function

This upgrade also includes a new Coronavirus Pneumonia Contact Tracking Technology API, which allows healthy organizations to start developing a new Coronavirus Pneumonia Tracking App. This feature will be enabled by default when upgrading to iOS 13.5. However, Apple added a COVID-19 toggle switch in the iOS 13.5 update, which users can turn off at any time.

Earlier this month, Apple and Google announced that they will jointly develop a cross-platform contact tracking API to enable the public health department to launch apps that can communicate between Android and iOS devices. At that time, users can download these official apps through their respective app stores. The first version will be released on May 1st, US time.

Users can now control the automatic highlighting of video frames during group chats

In addition, iOS 13.5 includes a new feature in Group FaceTime, and users can now control the automatic highlighting of video frames during group chats. This means that the size of the video frame will no longer depend on who is speaking. Instead, the video tiles will be laid out as they are now, if necessary, you can click to enlarge.
